An IDF officer, a company commander in the Givati Brigade, was wounded at about 7:00am this morning during an operation of the IDF force near the security fence near Kissufim in the central Gaza Strip.

The officer was evacuated in a fair condition by helicopter to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, suffering harm to the lower limbs and partial amputation of his leg. IDF forces operated on the scen in an attempt to locate the cell which placed the charge.

Following the incident, residents in the area were instructed to stay within 15 seconds of protected spaces. Agricultural work near the border fence with the Gaza Strip were discontinued, but the school and the education system activity will be as usual.

The Soroka hospital informed later that the soldier's condition in moderate to severe and he is being treated in the hospital's trauma room.

The IDF spokesman said that the officer received initial medical treatment on the scene and was taken by helicopter for further medical treatment in a hospital. Circumstances of the injury are reviewed.

"The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and security forces, and will act against anyone who runs terrorism against Israel. Hamas is a terrorist organization and bears the responsibility.

"The area near the security fence is a combat zone, and the stay in it is exploited by terrorist organizations to lay charges, planning attacks and attempts to kidnap Israeli soldiers."
