Mysterious explosion heard this morning (Wednesday) at the Yarmouk weapons factory in southern Khartoum, capital of Sudan. According to eyewitnesses, a short time before the explosion was heard; there were sounds of an aircraft or missiles in the region.
Governor of Khartoum, Abdul Rahman al - Hidar, said that the source of the explosion was at one of the military factory warehouses.
A Sudanese minister claimed this afternoon that the explosion was the result of an air attack by Israel. He said four planes were attacking the factory. According to some reports, there might be some casualties as a result of the explosion and damage to the factory.
Foreign media who reported the blast reminded that in the past operations to prevent weapons smuggling from Sudan through Egypt to Gaza was carried out, which were attributed to Israel. Among other things, ships were drowned and a convoy of smugglers carrying weapons were bombed.
This is not the first time that Khartoum officials have pointed an accusing finger at Israel. In May this year, an explosion occurred in a car at the entrance to Sudan Port, Red Sea port city east of the country, and a weapons smuggler was killed.
Sudanese Foreign Minister had said that he assumes that Israel is responsible for this. He argued that the way the explosion of the car was carried out – is very similar to the way in which Israel has alleged attacks in the Red Sea in the past.
