Following the accessibility regulations for new public buildings - committed to maximum accessibility for people with disabilities, today (Monday) Interior Minister Eli Yishai signed to amend planning and building regulations to implement the accessibility of public buildings.
The amendment applies to planning and building regulations on public buildings, parking and others which exist, which demand to make renovations and require them to increase accessibility for disabled, something which did not exist prior to renovating the building.
According to the minister: "In the state of Israel of 2012, each building and site must be accessible to every citizen and person. Israel must do everything in its power to be of assistance to people with various disabilities.
"In my office, which, among other things, grants approvals for various programs in the field of construction, we decided to condition these approvals in that various structures – both future ones and those who want to pass an extensive renovation - will be accessible to people with disabilities. In the State of Israel of 2012 any building, site, etc. must be accessible to any citizen and person. "
