Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino, announced this morning (Sunday) to Commander of the Zion District, Sub -Commander Nissim Edri, of his resignation and the opening of disciplinary proceedings in his case in the disciplinary court of the police, following the suspicion that Edri had knowledge of the offenses allegedly committed by the commander of Jerusalem Police Chief Shacham.
Police said that until reaching the disciplinary procedure the officer will be suspended.
The Brigadier General Edri's lawyer, Zion Amir, said in response: "We will bring our response during the disciplinary process, and we believe that as part of the disciplinary inquiry Brigadier General Edri will be able to prove that there is no blemish in his actions."
Since the affair was published in early August Edri has been on vacation, and his deputy - Commander Eliyahu Kazari – has been filling his post.
About two months ago the DIP in the Ministry of Justice announced that it recommends not to bring Edri to criminal hearing, but to a police disciplinary hearing. As mentioned, today the Commissioner accepted the recommendation.
The Commissioner is expected to soon announce the appointment of a new commander of this sensitive area, who will be Edri's successor.
