Recession in Elad• Rabbis clean Mikvah's due to municipal debts

A new crisis in Elad: 8 mikvahs locked last Thursday, after the municipality has not paid the cleaning company their monthly payments.

"It is disgraceful that this is the way the mayor represents the ultra-Orthodox community," said the company.

For eight months the Elad municipality has been rejecting the payments it owes to the national cleaning company 'Ram K.R.M.', the debt has amounted to 800 thousand shekels.
On Thursday evening the company's project manager announced to the municipality that he has been forced to send home cleaning staff who have been doing work free of charge regularly, and will not continue to do so.

That’s how the Elad municipality was forced to shut down their Mikvah's.

Signs were posted at the entrance to the Mikvah's "Cleaners will not be ignored! Work requires payment," "Mayor I have worked! So pay me" and "Cleaning staffs have stopped being suckers of the municipality."

In recent days the cleaners held a protest in front of the Municipality. (Documentation below).

Meanwhile, the City Rabbi Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Grossman and his wife were accompanied on Thursday by a number of yeshiva students to help themselves in the cleaning of the Mikvah's for the public.

"Cold shoulder from a high rank position"

This morning Hgr"d Rozhin along with Kollel students also went out to clean the Mikvah's and in the coming days Yeshiva students plan to go on a rotations campaign to complete the cleaning every day, and also to launch a campaign of protest against the municipality.

Tomer Menashrov, Project Manager on behalf of the company, told B'Chadrei Charedim: "We have been working with the city for three years. For eight months, due to internal problems within the council, we did not receive payment. The municipality continues to reassure us, but no one is keeping their promise. It is a disgrace, that a mayor who represents the orthodox community in the city should behave in such a way. "

Michelle Kricheli, vice president at the company, told B'Chadrei Charedim: "The essence of our work is maintenance and cleaning Mikvah's in the city. We explained to the municipality that we cannot send out a cleaner who has not received payment. Unfortunately I received a cold shoulder from a high rank position at the municipality who just did not take us seriously in order to get us pass the crisis. I got to the point where I cannot look my employees in the eye. "

The municipality's response has not yet been received.
