After a long period of discussions and meetings between members of the Ichud Haleumi and Habayit Hayehudi who are running, it happened: Religious Zionism is reunited.
Today (Thursday) afternoon, members of the Ichud Haleumi and all those competing for Habayit Hayehudi met for a unification meeting in which they all signed a statement that they are committed to run together in the next elections, and sign the unity agreement immediately after the primaries at the Habayit Hayehudi.
The conference was initiated by the elders of religious Zionist Rabbonim who worked hard to achieve unity, Rabbi Zalman Melamed, Rabbi Zephaniah Drori, Rabbi Haim Druckman and Rabbi Eitan Eizman, who also directed the conference.
Rabbi Eitan Eizman said: "We want to go together in total unity. The technical aspects are less important. I hope we all go together and be the surprise of the elections."
Rabbi Zalman Melamed who got excited during his speech said that "The union of parties is not due to necessity but with the understanding that the foundations of the nation, the Torah and Israel are agreed on all, without blurring the various shades in public. This gathering aims at eliminating all doubts: go together to elections. We are on the way to a revolution which is educational, religious and moral in the leadership of the country".
Rabbi Druckman said that "Unity had to exist long ago. This consolidation is so natural, so real and so necessary. No doubt that the public will support this consolidation. The potential is very large and all those who voted so far for other parties must return home. Chazak ve'Nitchazek."
Minister Daniel Hershkowitz: "The fact that the national religious public is not found together is a puzzling phenomenon. The Torah of Israel, the Land of Israel and the nation of Israel are greater than any other considerations. The potential of the national religious public from 'Meimad' to Kahana is three or four times larger than what we have today in the Knesset, B"H we shall do and succeed! "
Haichud Haleumi chairman Yaakov Katz (Ketzele) said: "This union is the biggest thing happening here. We will be the keystone and the backbone of the next government. "
MK Zevulun Orlev said: "I have said many times that there is no chance that I will be chosen to head the Mafdal and there will not be a union. Those who don't want unity, should not vote for me. We should not get out of here before starting a team not engaged in contests within the party and which will begin to prepare now for all actions to establish all possible headquarters now. "
State Control Committee chairman MK Uri Ariel: "Ze hayom Asa Hashem, nagila venismecha bo". The Jewish people consists of many colors but the beauty is the sum of all of them together, not separately. There is love and friendship, there is ability and opportunity, it is essential for entire people of Israel. "
MK Uri Orbach, chairman of Habayit Hayehudi said: "The differences are small enough and with a little goodwill and concessions we will succeed. This collaboration brings us back to life. The new political engine will provide new powers to the public. Many achievements are possible, we just open the door of elections through which we will reach far. "
Naftali Bennett, who is running for the leadership of Habayit Hayehudi concluded that "Something new is starting with religious Zionism and on a large scale! We were on the verge of extinction and political disappearance. We agree on the majority and that is enough to take the lead and go together. We want a Jewish state and not that the court will take us to places which are not good. The task in our generation is to return the Jewish soul to the State of Israel. "
The conference ended with a joint photograph of everyone and with Hatikvah and 'Ani Ma'amin', but despite the festive atmosphere it was difficult to ignore the fact that a very major tributary of the Ichud Leumi refrained from taking part in the demonstration of unity – MKs Michael Ben-Ari and Aryeh Eldad, who are threatening that they run independently.
