Gorbachev at a meeting with the Hgr"b Lazar: "Russia is good for Jews"

Not many people in our generation have made a real revolution. Individuals are the people that have been enacted in world history as bringing about a revolution that changed the world. One of those individuals is the former Soviet Union President, Michael Gorbachev, the man who liberated hundreds of millions from the yoke of the communist boot and cancelled the tyrannical rule of a generation, and changed the Iron Curtain to a front door forever.

Thanks to Gorbachev millions of Jews from Russia were let out to the Holy land and the entire world, and thanks to him the Soviet Union Judaism came out of their resistance and got back on her feet with pride. The entire world and the Jewish world look different before and after his reign.

During this period, a point when we celebrate twenty years of the Communist government fall, Gorbachev said to Russia's chief rabbi, Hgr"b Lazar: "Russia is good for Jews and Jews are happy in Russia - and I'm proud of this current situation, which I have led history to."

These words were said by former President of the Soviet Union during a meeting with Russia's chief Rabbi, Hgr"b Lazar, who invited him to visit the new Jewish Museum built - by the 'Union of Jewish Communities of Russia'.

The new Jewish museum, will be one of the most invested and largest known ever to Russian Jewry and will allow millions of people, Jews and Gentiles, to see, to experience and learn about the glorious history of the Jews, from the creation of the world, the giving of the Torah, the building of the Temple, the most difficult periods suffered by the Jewish people during the generations, the holy Torah, rabbis, its communities to this present day and especially the story of the thousands of Jews who kept Judaism alive under communist rule ship, with true devotion-as it says: 'those who sow with tears", and now- with the flowering Jewish population in Russia – "will reap with joy".

Gorbachev is in contact with the Jewish community, whilst constantly monitoring the flourishing Jewish life throughout the Soviet Union.

At the end of the meeting, Gorbachev responded to the chief Rabbi of Russia and promised to visit soon.
