District Court in New York discussed last night (Tuesday) the lawsuit filed by Jewish organizations and three rabbis against the municipality's decision on 'mouth sucking' during circumcision.

At the end it was decided to postpone the decree temporarily by 30 days. .
The lawsuit was filed last week by three Jewish organizations, including Agudath Israel of America and three mohels.

It dealt with the decision of the New York City that parents have to sign a consent form before the 'mouth sucking' procedure during circumcision. The law is designed to prevent transmission of diseases, which first after emerged between the years 2004 to 2011 and infected at least 11 babies with herpes following mouth sucking. Two of them died and two others suffered brain damage.

While the decision was to go into effect early next week, the court issued a temporary restraining order against the law until November 14th, when another legal hearing will take place

Rabbis and organizations claim that the law is 'unconstitutional' and violates freedom of religion. According to them, the study is limited and filled with defects, and must not be relied upon in a significant and sensitive issue like this. Prosecution also asked to impose a temporary order to freeze the law.

In contrast, the City Health Commissioner Thomas Pirelli said: "The city should protect its citizens, and it is important that parents know the risks of such proceedings."
