State Attorney's decision to appeal against the judgment verdict of Ehud Olmert opens a verbal blow battle and brought sharp exchanges between the Olmert team and prosecutors.
After the announcement last night (Tesday), of their intention to appeal on his partial acquittal at the trial, said Olmert's spokesman Amir Dan that "behind the appeal is nothing but a vicious personal vendetta against Mr. Olmert."
"Rather than internalize the criticism and learn the verdict in order not to repeat itself ever a case where a state prosecutor disposes of Prime Minister of Israel unfairly, the state prosecutor tries to achieve personal prestige and get himself improvements."
"The credit was resounding," says Dan, "despite the partial conviction of breach of trust and included harsh criticism of the conduct of the prosecution. Rather than internalize the criticism, the state attorney is trying to save personal prestige and pursue Olmert at the expense of public resources."
Prosecution fought back and released a scathing and aggressive message against the speaker. "We regret the reckless statements by Mr Olmert's spokesman against the prosecution and against the State Attorney in personal," read the message.
"Mr Olmert's spokesman," emphasizes the message, "as usual, false public display unparalleled both by the content of the verdict in the case of Mr Olmert and the prosecution decision-making processes.
We believe that there is no place for such expressions in the public media discourse - and these things are serious and irresponsible.
"For the avoidance of doubt, we revisit and clarify that the update call to attorney Zohar on the decision to appeal was not intended for media publication and the prosecution has not delivered the news to the public," declared the members of the prosecution team.
