Antwerp: Hareidi came first place in Democratic Party

Haredi candidate Shmuel Markowitz running for the Liberal - Democratic in Antwerp was elected in the Municipal elections held yesterday (Sunday) in the city of Antwerp in the first place of his party.
This is the first time a Hareidi runs for a local authority in Belgium. Markowitz, who is one of the leaders of the local Hatzala and IU commander of ZAKA in Belgium, ran in the local Liberal Democratic party.
The elections were conducted by a method in which voters indicate the name of the candidate personally, Markowitz recorded significant achievement, gained approximately 2700 votes and took first place in his party.
Hareidi residents of the Belgian city are satisfied with the identity of the elected Mayor - Bert de Havre, who is close to the local Orthodox community, and is known as a supporter of Torah and chessed institutions.
In a conversation with Behadrey Haredim, Markowitz, who speaks fluent Hebrew, says to Behadrey Haredim: "I went into it just three weeks ago, after I received the blessing of Rabbonim to enter politics. We made a big Kiddush Hashem. We managed to prove yesterday that we want to help and assist residents. Such a victory has never been before and I hope my election will help the Hareidi community in the city. "
