Former President Moshe Katsav recently filed a request for a pardon, after serving a total of ten months imprisonment out of seven years' imprisonment imposed on him, as reported by 'Ha'aretz' this morning.

Katzav passed, through his associates, the request to the department of pardons at the Ministry of Justice.

Katsav, who is serving his sentence in prison at the religious wing of the Ma'asiyahu jail, expressed no remorse for his actions up to this moment, and even today he continues to maintain that he fell victim to a plot and maintains his innocence. Having received pardon requests while serving as president of the country, Katzav knows well that his chances to get a pardon are slim, mainly because a prisoner amnesty is possible only after confessing his actions and expressing remorse.

Amnesty is granted by the President after it is examined by the Ministry of Justice and also after it receives a recommendation and is signed by the Minister of Justice. At this point, apparently, the clarification of the request has not yet begun.
