Obama disdains • Pressure from Israel: "background noise"

President of the United States, Barack Obama, related in an interview with the prestigious program "60 Minutes" on the CBS network broadcast tonight to pressures placed on him on behalf of Israel to determine the red lines concerning Iran's nuclear armament.

He said, "When it comes to decisions on security, the downward pressure on me has to do with the good of United States citizens and I intend to block out background noise."

During the interview, in which Obama was asked mainly about his domestic policy issues, towards the United States presidential election, the U.S. president emphasized, when asked about the foreign policy of his administration, that he "felt an obligation, not pressure, to make sure we hold consultations with Israel on these issues".

Obama was asked to what extent he felt pressure from the Israeli prime minister, to take military action in Iran, and answered that "I have been holding talks on the subject with Netanyahu all the time. I understand the insistence of the Prime Minister that Tehran will not acquire nuclear weapons, and even identify with him, because it might endanger us. It would endanger Israel and the entire world, and may even accelerate the nuclear arms race. "
