"U'mi Bamayim". Tragedy: infant from Monsey drowned in bathroom
Mendi Altman, a 14 month old infant from Monsey, was found with his face into the lavatory bowl in his aunt's home in Boro Park, where he spent Rosh Hashanah with his family. His father received the bitter news at the end of the Chag in Uman

Tragedy: Mendi Altman z"l, a 14 month old infant was found with his face drowned into water in the lavatory on the second floor of his family's residence, where he spent the second day of Rosh Hashanah with his family.
The infant was found by his 13 year old cousin at about 11pm (New York time) on the second day. According to the police, he was rushed unconscious to the Maimonides hospital which is situated close by, only towards 1am, and his death was determined when he arrived in hospital.
The tragedy, according to the police, occurred in his aunt's home on 11th Ave. and 58th St. in Boro Park, Brooklyn. The infant's family were hosted by his mother's sister, for Rosh Hashanah. Mendi is one of seven brothers and sisters.
The police who arrived on the scene reported to the media: "The children fell asleep last night, and the adults checked that everything is alright with them". According to the police, there were no signs on the infant's body, which could have evoked a suspicion of criminal offense. Although there is no suspicion, the police are still investigating.
According to one of the reports, the infant's father spent Rosh Hashanah in Uman, and received the bitter news immediately at the end of the Yomtov.
A person who identified himself as his uncle, told the media in New York: "The entire family is grieving, a terrible tragedy".
