"Berlin is wearing a yarmulke," was the name of the solidarity rally which took place with Jews of Berlin, capital of Germany, on the background of the anti-Semitic incident which occurred last week in which Harav Daniel Alter was attacked by a group of Arabs.
During the rally, all the participants wore a yarmulke.
The popular Berlin newspaper BZ dedicated its front page yesterday to five famous locals wearing a yarmulke. Among those in the pictures: the mayor, Klaus Webreit, and a few politicians and celebrities.
As known, last Tuesday, Harav Daniel Alter was attacked in one of the suburbs of Berlin by a few Arabs. The attackers asked the Rav who wore a yarmulke if he is Jewish, and then cursed and hit him in his face.
The newspaper decided to take the initiative one step forwards, turned to politicians, VIP's and citizens who agreed to wear a yarmulke and be photographed by the paper.
One of them, Swan Shultz, a member of parliament from Spandau suburb in Berlin, explained: "Berlin is wearing a yarmulke – this is a very good idea and a sign full of power of solidarity".
