Drama in 'Atra Kadisha'. Two seniors of organization arrested

Drama in Beit Shemesh: early before dawn this morning (Tues.) the investigators of the preliminary inquiry department in the central unit of the Jerusalem district, in cooperation with the members of the antique authorities, raided and searched the homes of two of the seniors of the Atra Kadisha organization, and arrested them.
The detainees are Hezky Kalmanowitz, who is known as the strong personality in the organization, and the right-hand man of the chairman, Hagr"d Shmidl, and Yehoshua Altman, who is considered one of the well known and senior supervisors in the organization.

The two are suspects of an attempt to steal bones from an archeological site in Beit Shemesh about a month ago, since they suspected they were the bones of a Jew.

The police, according to information which reached Behadrey Hareidim, is searching for Chaim Toisig, another senior member of the organization. The police wished to arrest him too, but did not manage to locate him at home, most probably because of night activity which he performed against the desecration of graves.

Hezky Kalmanowitz will be brought this afternoon for prolonging his arrest at the magistrate's court in Jerusalem.

Yehoshua Altman will be released by the police officer under conditions.

More than two motnhs ago, a huge inquiry was broadcasted against Atra Kadisha. In the report, the organization – which presents itself as fighting against the desecration of graves – was blamed as one who takes "protection" from initiators, and in addition harms heritage sites around Israel. The chairman of the antique authorities, Shuka Dorfman, named the members of the organization "terrorists".

At the end of the inquiry it was reported that there was a decision to set up a special investigation team of the Jerusalem police which will check the claims.
