The new instruction of the Eda Hareidis, the Rubin kashrus body and Yeshivas Mir regarding the closing of restaurants in the Beis Yisroel neighborhood at night hours, continues to occupy the residents in the area, the Yeshiva bochurim and mainly – the stores.

The instruction which was given exactly a week ago when in a joint decision of the kashrus bodies and representatives of the Yeshiva, it was determined that restaurants which will stay open after 23:00 at night will loose their kashrus certificate.

So far, the instruction has been going smoothly, but tonight (Thursday) on Leil Shishi in which the neighborhood is considered a busy place up to the small hours of the night, will be the first testing point for the owners of stores and restaurants in the area.

Behadrei Hareidim has found out that a group of bochurim has been standing during the last nights at the entrance of kiosks around the neighborhood, and demanding of bochurim who are listed in the Yeshiva not to enter them since they stayed open even after the time that was fixed. These are kiosks which sell products with different hechsherim, but do not have kashrus certificates.

Furthermore, the 'Nechama' bakery which has the kashrus of the Eda Hareidis, has been sticking to the agreement over the last week according to which it should switch off the light outside the bakery and the lights of the signs of the bakery itself, in order to prevent the gathering of bochurim or passers-by who disturb the quiet of the neighbors.

As said, the first and real test will be tonight, on Leil Shishi.

Reuven, a bochur who lives in the neighborhood and does not learn in Mir, told Behadrei Hareidim: "It will be very hard to see the owners of restaurants who make very large profits on Thursday night, close their gates. But on the other hand, they have no choice".

To his estimation, "If indeed they will stand up to the agreements which were held with them, within a few weeks we will be able to see pirate sellers in front of the Yeshiva standing with cholent pots for the wide public".
