The mythological building of the Talmud Torah and Yeshiva Gedolah Etz Chaim on Jaffa St. in Jerusalem, has become a place of entertainment and profligacy.
Harav Chaim Tokachinsky, the general secretary of the Etz Chaim institutions, told Behadrei Hareidim: "The place has absorbed so much Torah for tens of years, what is happening today in this building leaves us with a very harsh feeling".
The building was sold about two years ago for a fortune. Since then, the building was standing vacant, and Etz Chaim has recently completed evacuating the last objects from it.
Since then, the vacant building has started serving as a place of entertainment and profligacy at all hours of the day. Secular youngsters infiltrate into it, and do whatever they feel like.
The purchaser, a Hareidi man, has done everything in his power to lock up the place, but the youngsters have managed to find a breach and go into the old building.
The police who was called in a few times, evacuated the youngsters, but they returned.
"Since those occurrences, we acted the whole time and are still doing everything so that we can stop them,'" says Tokachinsky. "We are in contact with the entrepreneurs, although this is not our responsibility, to guard the place".
"In two years time," he says, "we hope to enter the area of the Lemel school on Yeshayahu street. This will form a closing of a circle for the Etz Chaim institutions, because that school was opened in order to harm the Etz Chaim school".
