Many abuse graffiti which were sprayed on the Yad Vashem building, were discovered this morning (Mon.), in which there are abhorring graffiti. According to the wording and style of the inscriptions, it seems that radical Hareidi factors which are identified with the Sikrikim, who decided to attack the "Zionists" by means of the sensitive issue of the holocaust, are the ones who stand behind them.

"Thank you Hitler for the wonderful holocaust you arranged for us. Only thanks to you we got a state from the UN", signed: "The World Zionist Mafia", it was written. In other inscriptions it was written: "The Zionists wanted the holocaust" or "The Zionist leadership wanted the holocaust".

"If Hitler would not have been, the Zionists would have created him" it was claimed in another inscription, and another: "Zionist persecutors! You declared war on Hitler in the name of the Jewish nation! You brought about the holocaust".

Avner Shalev, the chairman of Yad Vashem, expressed his shock: "To our amazement and pain we discovered abuse inscriptions on the walls of the Warsaw Square, the memorial square. All the inscriptions were sharply pointed against Zionism and Zionists. This is the first time that such a thing occurs, and it was hard to believe that such a thing would happen." According to him: "A mysterious and evil hand wanted to hurt the values of unity, openness, freedom and tolerance".

Shalev said that extracts from t he security cameras have been passed on to the police, who has started a wide investigation of the event.

M.K. Zeev Bilsky, the chairman of the lobby for holocaust survivors, responded to the event at Yad VAshem: "I am embarrassed in face of what was done tonight, this deed is crossing a red line in terms of Judaism, Zionism and values. We are used to such scenes in foreign countries, and the idea that such a thing could have taken place here in Israel, sheds a black stain on the memory of the holocaust and its lessons. I sincerely hope that the Israeli police will find those responsible and will use the rigor of the law accordingly".

The minister of Propaganda and Diaspora, Yuli Adelstein, who is in charge of the prevention of anti-Semitism, said: "We are talking of a new step and crossing of red lines which have not yet been seen. Spraying inscriptions in a house whose essence is a memory for millions of victims, is a spit in the face of the state of Israel and of the deceased, and a desecration of their memory. I'm convinced that the Israeli police will soon find the anonymous doers, and call upon the law authorities to use the rigor of the law".

The chairman of Yad Vashem updated the Minister of Education, Gidon Saar, about the destruction which was done in Yad Vashem this morning. The minister retorted: "Whoever desecrated and made Yad Vashem filthy with these unruly inscriptions, did so with the purpose of hurting the public's feelings". The Minister of Education further says that he relies on the Israeli Police to locate the criminals and bring them to judgment.

The Minister of Internal Security talked this morning with the chief of the Jerusalem district regarding the spray of inscriptions in Yad Vashem, "We must investigate and place our hand quickly on the low perpetrators of such a shocking event in which one of the most prominent symbols of the nation of Israel was hurt, I'm shocked at the harm to this place, whose importance to all of mankind is great", says the minister.

Harav Arye Deri responded to the event: "The desecration of the center of memorial of holocaust martyrs, Yad Vashem, with abhorring words of abuse which are presumably signed by Hareidim, is a low deed which hurts the honor of those murdered of out nation, and the soul of the Torah of Israel. Marginal factors will not manage to hurt the unity of the Jewish nation, that despite the differences between its parts, is still gathering its pieces after the terrible destruction – together. One should hope that those who are responsible for this anti-Jewish and unethical deed, will be caught and punished in a severe and deterring way."

Shmulik ben Rubi, the spokesman of the Jerusalem police, told Behadrei Hareidim that there is a suspicion that radical Hareidim are those who performed the act, but all possible directions of investigation are being checked.
