After stone throwing: the wandering of Knesset Yaakov continues

The Yeshiva which split from the unification with Yeshivas Da'as Emes, moved to a temporary residence in the Arabic neighborhood of Beit Chanina. But the Arab neighbors weren't excited with the settlers, and threw blocks on the Yeshiva Bochurim. After consulting it was decided: to abandon the place – and look for an alternative. Interested to host the Yeshiva?

After stone throwing: the wandering of Knesset Yaakov continues

The trek of tribulations of Yeshiva Knesset Yaakov continues.

As was revealed in Behadrei Hareidim more than a week ago, the union between the Yeshiva – which is headed by Hagaon R' Amitai Cohen, and Yeshivas Da'as Emes, headed by Hagaon R' Dov Behr Shiff , failed, and conflicts arose between the talmidim of the two yeshivos over Shavuos.

As a result, the yeshiva started looking for an alternative place, where the talmidim could learn without disturbance. The unexpected solution arrived from a Jewish family which lives in the Beit Chanina neighborhood in Jerusalem. The members of the family turned to the management of the yeshiva, and offered to allocate a building for the yeshiva's purposes. The Rosh Yeshiva feared that there is a risk for the yeshiva to dwell in a neighborhood where most of the residents are Arabs.

Nevertheless, not having another choice, the Rosh Yeshiva went out to the place a few times, scanned the area of the building and its surroundings, and after taking advice with the rest of the yeshiva's staff, arrived at the conclusion that the building could serve the Talmidim, at least temporarily – until an alternative building will be found in a quieter and safer place.

Last Thursday, the learning started in the yeshiva's new residence, in the midst of the Arab neighborhood.

At first it seemed that the fears were in vain. The Arab neighbors did not show any signs of resistance to the spiritual activity in the neighborhood. Although a few worried parents were uneasy about the fact that their sons are learning in a yeshiva inside an Arab neighborhood, they understood that this is a temporary solution which will only last a few weeks.

But yesterday (Tues.) a turnabout occurred: a group of Arabs threw stones and blocks towards a few of the Yeshiva's talmidim, who ran away for fear of their lives. As a result, many boys fled the place.

One of the teachers in the Yeshiva turned to Hagr"s Auerbach to ask his advice, and presented the complex dilemma to him. At the end of the talk, Hagr"s asked to call the Rosh Yeshiva to him, Hagaon R' Amitai Cohen, and announced that he should not continue to hold the yeshiva in a place of danger, and also blessed him to find a new place soon.

This morning (Wed.) the last of the bochurim left the building of the yeshiva in Beit Chanina, and now the team of the yeshiva labors to find a new and safer place.
