How to Minimize Prison Violence? ● Teach Judaism
כלא ספינקא

A new project is taking place in the Polish prisons. Psychology studies show that one way to illuminate the violence among prison mates is to teach them about Judaism.

Part of this uniqe project is classes on Judaism, and Jewish concepts are explained.

The purpose of this project was to get the prison mates to know a little bit about Judaism and to minimize the anti-Semitism. The results were much greater.

As part of the project, the chief rabbi of Poland, Rabbi Michael Shudrick, gives over an optional class in ten different prison halls. Although these classes are optional, according to the organizers they are very well attended and popular, to the point that it was decided to include work outside of the prisons, like cleaning neglected Jewish old age homes.

As a result of this project, prisoner volunteers partially cleaned and restored some of the destruction on the memorial site of Yudavne. A place where the Polish burned their Jewish neighbors and vandalized their homes and belongings, in 1941.
