Police commander Doron Benamu was deployed last week Thursday at a protest taking place in Kikar Hashabos. During the course of the protest he found a bag containing cash and checks. Upon finding the bag, the police commander attempted to locate the owner in the nearby vicinity but was unsuccessful.
Later that evening after the protest was over, police proceeded to track down the owner of the lost bag. They called the person whose name appeared on the checks and asked him if he had lost anything. The person immediately confirmed that the bag belonged to him, but notified the police that he would not be able to pick it up before Shabbos.
The man’s wife showed up today (Sunday) at the police station and was given the bag containing the money and checks. The woman kindly thanked the officers for their effort in locating her and returning the lost bag.
The woman also pointed out that it’s unbelievable that even during a protest the police are still working towards helping the community with whatever need it has.
Commander Doron Benamu who found the bag said, “When I found the bag I immediately attempted to locate the owner in the nearby vicinity. Since I could not find the owner, and with the possibility that the money was needed by a family for making Shabbos, we put in tremendous effort to locate the owner. With the woman’s arrival at the station today, I was very moved to return the money to her.
Despite protests that take place, first and foremost we try to help the community, and I am glad that in this case too, we were able to help out a family”.
