- Behdrey Haredim
- כ"ו אדר התשע"ז
Rabbi Dovid Twersky was the son of Rabbi Mordechai Chernobyl, the founder of the Tolna dynasty and author of Birchat Dovid. This two paged letter is signed by the Admor and expresses his concern and dedication for every one of his chassidim.
Rabbi Dovid of Tolna was born in 1808. His father was Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl, and his maternal grandfather was Rabbi Dovid Laikes, a disciple of the Besh"t. He married the daughter of Rabbi Yisrael Zev of Charni-Ostrog, son of Rabbi Zusha of Anipoli.
He established his court in Tolna, and the thousands of followers who visited him turned the city into one of the largest chassidic centers in the Ukraine. He often travelled to outlying cities and village to spiritually strengthen the Jews in the area. He was famed for his "ruach hakodesh", exorcising dybukkim, amulets, and the wonders he performed. He passed away in Tolna on the 6th of Iyar, 1882.
The letter is in very fine condition and bidding will open at $30,000!
Highlights of the upcoming Winner's sale include a rare letter regarding the rabbinate of Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar written by Rabbi Shalom Eliezer Halberstam of Ratzfert in 1930; an unknown teshuva from Rabbi Yosef Shaul HaLevi Notenhausen, av"d Lemberg, 1866; a first edition of the prominent Chassidic work, Meor Eiyanim; an 18th century illustrated Italian ketuba, and much more.
