A Yasam police officer was interrogated this morning, by the ‘Division for police interrogation’ for allegedly attacking a protester during one of the recent protests in Yerushalayim.
The incident took place Tuesday night at the busy Bar Ilan intersection in Yerushalayim. Footage from the demonstration shows a Yasam police officer shoving a protester from behind, knocking him flat on the ground. The footage clearly shows that there was no prior provocation from the demonstrator before he was assaulted.
“Bechadrei Chareidim” discovered that the officer was released after the investigation.
MK Yehuda Glick (Likud), strongly condemned the officer’s actions, this morning. Glick tweeted the disturbing clip and added a caption saying “this is very disturbing footage”.
Glick further stated “I hope that someone at the police is dealing with this officer. He has no place in the police department. A violent police force is not strong, rather a very weak one”.
In spite of the storm caused by the the viral clip, Israel police responded to “Bechadrei Chareidim” saying, “it’s already a number of weeks that the police are dealing with disorderly conduct and rioting in Yerushalayim. The demonstrations have been getting increasingly more violent, including rock and object throwing towards officers, lighting garbage bins, blocking traffic….”
Police further replied: “In light of all this, the police has to operate with more force in order to protect the peace and security of residents. In yesterday’s demonstration in Yerushalayim 18 protesters were arrested”.
The police also referred to the brutal clip and said, “it’s possible that what is shown on the clip is only part of what happened, as well, what happened prior is not shown, officials are looking into it and everything will be clarified”.
