Police have complete control over the shul in Amona, bringing the painful expulsion to completion.
As police broke into the shul, they encountered strong and violent resistance from some of the protesters, whoe were holed up in there. Rocks, fire extinguishers and wooden beams were thrown at the cops, in an effort to stall their progress.
Seventeen officers have been injured while entering the shul, this is an addition to 24 others that have been injured during the collective expulsion.
The ‘Choneinu organization’, which provides legal assistance to arrested individuals, reports that over 20 protesters have been injured during the shuls eviction.
During a speech in Ariel today, PM Benyamin Netanyahu mentioned Amona, saying: “The settlements are important to me, and so, I can say that today and yesterday are hard days, we did every effort that we could not arrive at this moment. But at the end of the day, we carried out the law because we are a state of law”.
“I am partner to the great pain of the families that were forced to leave their homes, and the work of their lives. We all understand the great pain- we will establish a new settlement on government land”.
Netanyahu added: “I put together a committee yesterday to prepare for the new town, and we will work on it right away so that it can be built as soon as possible.
I call on everyone to evacuate without violence and resistance, and to respect the police and soldiers, it’s also painful for them…”
MK Betsalel Smotrich (Bayit Hayehudi) referred to those that used violence, saying: Attacking the police is a red line. We stayed far away from it throughout this entire painful eviction. It’s too bad that at the end a small minority is breaching this”.
Throughout the night security forces negotiated with the protesters that were held up in the shul, in an effort to avoid a violent break-in. However, the protesters did not relent and were forcefully removed today.
