A social media campaign to raise funds for the renovation of the home of a disabled soldier seriously wounded in Operation Protective Edge was met with astounding success.
The campaign was launched when the government refused to fund the necessary home renovations since the soldier lived in the Ofra settlement. Yisrael Sheli launched the fundraising campaign hoping to gather the sun of 600,000 NIS. Within a few hours they had raised their target amount and as of now they have raised an astounding 1,200,000 Nis.
The post on Yisrael Sheli states that Yehuda lay comatose for an entire two years surrounded by his loving family who never gave up hoping that he would recover. His wife gave birth to a baby boy while he was in a coma.
A few months ago Yehuda regained consciousness and is currently undergoing grueling rehab to regain his basic skills. He is finally strong enough to be discharged to continue his treatments as an outpatient.
As all wounded soldiers Yehuda is entitled to the financial assistance of the Ministry of security to fund the significant costs of home renovations. However in Yehuda's case the government will not participate in the expense since his home is situated in the settlement of Ofra which is currently under a building freeze.
A grateful Yehuda has a message for Am Yisrael.
