Americans alerted about Travel to Europe

The State Department has issued a travel alert to Americans planning to travel to Europe this summer. The alert warns about a risk of potential terrorist attacks throughout the continent.

The alert says, "The large number of tourists visiting Europe in the summer months will present greater targets for terrorists planning attacks in public locations, especially at large events." The travel alert is in effect until the end of August.

The State Department is warning Americans about attending the European Soccer Championship to be held in France from June 10 to July 10. France will extend its state of emergency to include the Tour de France cycling race from July 2 to July 24.

The State Department is advising Americans traveling to Europe to be vigilant in public places and when using public transportation. Americans are also advised to avoid crowded places.
