Members of the governing coalition will vote this morning (Monday) on widening of the government with participation of the Israel Beiteinu party as well as the appointment of Avigdor Lieberman as Minister of Defense. This comes in the wake of a late-night compromise between Naftali Bennet and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Although as reported in Bchadrey Charedim Minister of Health Yaacov Litzman had stated that he wants no part of disagreements in which he is not involved, he decided to put an end to the crisis that threatened to topple the coalition and would make new elections inevitable. He initiated a compromise concerning the security cabinet, got Bennet’s approval and then approached Netanyahu. Netanyahu first refused to accept it but finally accepted it late at night, and the crisis was averted.
According to Litzman’s plan, Bennet’s demand to appoint a military attaché to each member of the Cabinet will not happen until a decision is made by a committee appointed by Netanyahu that is supposed to present its findings within a few weeks. Instead, all cabinet members will be kept up to date by that acting head of the National Security Council Brigadier General (ret.) Yaakov Nagel, or his deputy, temporarily act as a military attaché to the cabinet.
