Rav Berland to be Extradited

Rav Eliezer Berland, leader of Shuvu Banim who is imprisoned in South Africa has agreed to be extradited to Israel following negotiations by Rav Yitzchak David Grossman with Israel police and authorities in South Africa. The Rav will serve out his time under special conditions.

According to sources close to the Rav, the extradition might take place as early as next week, following agreement on the expected conditions of imprisonment.

According to the source: “We’re not talking about his release. He will sit in prison until judicial procedures are concluded. The simple fact is that the Rav wants to come back to Israel and end his ‘galus.’ . . The Rav is completely serious about returning to Israel without any playing around and will meet the conditions for the extradition while at the same time ensuring that his rights are cared for.”

Thousands of the Rav’s followers and admirers took part in a bonfire in Meiron where they listened to a lecture by the Rav broadcast from jail.
