Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke with Minister of Defense Bougie Yaalon Thursday night and clarified that his dismissal from his job is not final, according to Channel 2.
Yaalon hasn’t decided yet whether to accept the job of Ministry of Foreign Affairs or to remain out of the Government. According to the report, Prime Minister Netanyahu told Bougie that no changes will be made in Israel’s security policy if Avigdor Lieberman is appointed Minister of Defense. Lieberman himself met on Thursday with Chairman of the Habayit Hayehudi party, Minister Naftali Bennett.
In a survey conducted by the Migdam Institute published last night on Channel 2, results showed no obvious preference among the public for the choice of Minister of Defense: Bougie Yaalon or Avigdor Lieberman.
Chairman of Hamachne HaZioni Yitzchak Herzog called upon Minister of Defense Yaalon and MK Orli Levy Abekasis who has resigned form Yisrael Beiteinu to join the Machane HaZioni party.
Update: As of early this morning, Minister of Defense Moshe Yaalon announced on social media that he is resigning from his ministerial position.
The post reads, "I informed the prime minister this morning that following his recent actions and developments, and given the lack of faith in him, I am resigning from the government and the Knesset and taking a break from political life."
Ya'alon's resignation is to take effect on Sunday and Lieberman is to take his place on Tuesday. In the intervening two days, the defense portfolio will be temporarily held by the prime minister.
