Roshei yeshivos, mashgichim, Talmud Torah principals, educators and teachers along with thousands of fathers deeply concerned about their sons’ education participated in the annual Chaim Shel Torah conference. The conference, held in Jerusalem’s Tamir Hall, dealt with three subjects: definition of personal identity, attention deficiency disorders and how to deal with them.
The steering committee had concluded that the main battle in this generation is the souls of young people, and exploration of the above three topics could be of tremendous help in education of our youth.
The conference was moderated by Rav Aharon Yehudah Perlstein, principal of the Talmud Torah Machzikei Hadaas in Bnei Brak. The conference had three sessions: in the first session Rav Chaim Zvi Yaakov, principal of the Chassidic Talmud Torah in Ashdod presented a groundbreaking study about our personal identity and that of our students using a slide presentation. The next speaker was Chairman of the worldwide Chaim Shel Torah organization Rav Pinchas Wind, who presented the spiritual, educational and Torah aspects of definition of one’s personal identity as an important factor in the work of the private teacher.
The second plenum began with a lecture by renowned educator Rav Mordechai Beir who took participants into the world of attention disorders from both the viewpoint of the individual dealing with them and how to treat them. Rav Beeri based directed most of his talk to the yeshivah world since so little is being done in this field in the yeshivas.
In addition, a lively panel discussion was led by Rav Shalom Firster, an experienced educator in Chaim Shel Torah who is a specialist in individual education. The panel, which included five others from various parts of the world of education, presented dramatic actual stories of students and how they cope.
In the third plenum, the maggid Rav Moshe Broyer gave a fascinating lecture.
