Head of Eiruv committee in Beit Shemesh Arrested for Removing Israeli Flags

While doing maintenance work on the Eida's eiruv in Beit Shemesh on Thrusday, Israeli flags were removed- and act that stirred up tensions in the city, and lead to the arrest of the eiruv's committee head. After intervention of charedi representatives in the Iriryah he was released.

The eiruv committee is frustrated and feels attacked by the lack of sympathy and support for their efforts to maintain a mehudar eiruv.

Motty Rosentzweig, speaker of Beit Shemesh told Bchadrey Charedim Thursday night," There is a lot of tension these days in Beit Shemesh over hafganos of some extreme elements in the city. It seems that those in charge of overseeing the eiruv of the Eida Charedis removed some Israeli Flags that were put up in advance of Independence Day- apparently without understand the complex and sensitive situation in our city.

Therefore the police detained the heads of the eiruv committee, on the suspicion that this was the work of extremist elements. As soon as the city's charedi representatives learned of the incident they worked to have the committee heads released and to undo the misunderstanding. "
