In response to the recent tragedies in Beitar Harav Shternbuch came to speak in the city in Chol Hamoed. He spoke about the troubles Israeli Jewry are facing today, both in terms of security as well as the efforts of the Supreme Court to destroy the yeshivos.
Regarding the tragedies in Beitar he encouraged the residents of Beitar to correct any breaches that may have entered the city, specifically mentioning recent styles of dress among women that do not conform with halacha as well as the source of tumah in our generation-the internet. He referenced the well-known passuk
"ולא יראה בך ערות דבר ושב מאחריך"
" (And He will not see nakedness among you and
withdraw from behind you.)
And said that we do not have a Navi today to tell us why these tragedies have happened, but we do know that erva causes the Shechina to withdraw which leaves us vulnerable to tzaros like it says in Tehilim:
"הסתרת פניך הייתי נבהל". (You hid Your face, I was frightened)
He then encouraged his audience saying ," Moshicah Tzidkeinu is already coming, and Harav Abramsky zt"l once told me that Am Yisrael is like a ship being tossed about on a stormy sea, and everyone aboard is forced to help the ship continue sailing. And when it approaches the very end of the trip and they near land a very large storm threatens the ship. All on board beseech the captain to give up the journey, and he answers them, " Fools! We have survived so many storms- now that we are at the very end you want to give up!"
"We have also lived through many many decrees and shmad in every generation- and now that we are at the end and Moshiach is literally standing behind the wall- should we abandon ship?"
