"I Spoke with Shlomi z"l, He Nodded and Signaled with his Eyes "

The family was on their way to Teverya where they were to celebrate Pesach, Shlomi was planning on travelling back to Yerushalayim , but a car that swerved out of its lane and collided with the Avizoahr family put an end to his life and injured his parents.

In an interview with "Bchadrey Charedim" Tzvika Cohen relates:" I was on the way to my friend's levaya and the Avizohar family was travelling in front of me. Suddenly they collided with another car. Their car flipped over onto its roof in the middle of the highway. All three passengers were trapped in the car.

The gas spilled out of the car and there was a terrible fear that it would catch fire any moment. It was terrifying. The scene was horrible. This was a terrible trauma, a horrific tragedy that will not be forgotten. They were on their way to their older son in Tveria and Shlomi was supposed to return home to Yerushalyaim.

"When I opened the doors I spoke with the driver Shlomi z"l. I told him, "hold on- we are with you", and he nodded his head and signaled with his eyes. He wasn't able to talk. His mother managed to exchange a few words with me. She told me a little bit about them. I wasn't able to converse with the father.

I managed to get the mother out of the car, but Shlomi and his father were really trapped. Food and chickens for the Chag were scattered over the floor of the car.

"Then soldiers came to assist , and we opened the doors in an effort to extricate them, while I was calling Hatzalah and arranging for them to be airlifted. It took them 20 minutes to arrive, this was a remote area, like in the middle of the desert.
"I spoke with the police three or four times, explaining our location to them. I
also spoke with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and with Yossi Refaeli of Hatzalah. The first to arrive on the scene were the fire department. With them we began to open the doors of the car, one by one.

"I myself was once in a car accident- and today's tragedy brought it all back. We have to explain to people the importance of driving safely."
