Tensions Heating Up Along Gaza Border Fence
Shai Hajiji, Head of the Gaza periphery Regional Council: “Saying that Hamas activists are going ahead with their acts of terror can only surprise someone who is completely cut off from reality. We locals can hear Hamas’ preparations for renewed battles on a daily basis.

An increase in activity along the Gaza border is being reported by multiple sources.
Maan, the Palestinian New Agency reported last night that 5 IDF D-9 bulldozers worked today across from the Gaza border fence. At 17:54 yesterday a Red Alert alarm was sounded in some of the villages in the Shaar Hanegev and Sdot Hanegev Regional Councils. It was later determined that the source was firing from light weapons.
In a press briefing, a senior IDF officer stated, “Hamas is busy building up its forces while we are working on the next battle, wherein we will undoubtedly strike them so forcefully that this will deter them for many years to come.
“The Hamas forces include some twenty thousand terrorists. The organization holds continual training session for its elite “Nochba” unit for “quality” missions such as strategic attacks. The unit’s numbers have increased since the summer of 2014 and today include 5,000 out of a total of 20,000 Hamas soldiers. Hamas is also investing more advanced methods and training exercises for its naval commando, recalling the Zikim encounter during the Operation Protective Edge. The force currently has a great number of underwater commandos. And then there’s the Iranian investment of funds and know-how for UAVs and drones.
“Hamas is also increasing its arsenal of rockets, although it has a shortage of raw materials, mainly because of the closure of most of the smuggling tunnels from Rafiah. It invests in rocket trials to develop regular medium- and long-range rocket firing into the sea in an attempt to avoid the Iron Dome system.”
