In an interview with Bchadrei on Wednesday Litzman said, “The statistics on diabetes and other illnesses caused by eating junk food worry us very much. Childhood obesity is on the rise- and not only in Israel. We are launching a campaign to educate the public about proper eating habits.
“And since the launching of the campaign I have come under intense pressure from some large food chains to stop speaking about nutrition. But I feel a responsibility to promote an awareness of healthy eating habits in our children. The public must be made aware that junk food is not healthy and shouldn’t be served to children.
“I mentioned McDonalds only because they are an international symbol of fast food. Their comments about Shabbos were irrelevant and out of place. I recommend they desist from initiating inappropriate discussions. “
