In an interview with Behadrey Haredim on Monday Moriah Ettinger said,” I still can’t believe that they have forbidden my husband from participating in the Bris of our son. It doesn’t make sense. It just isn’t Jewish. It is very very hard, but I believe that this is our Nisayon and our Mesiras Nefesh. The government will not break us and the Bris will be celebrated with happiness and Jewish pride. “
Moriah said Monday, ”I still believe that despite today’s hearing they will not allow my husband to attend the Bris. These are evil people…and yesterday’s hearing was completely ridiculous. I wanted to ask the prosecution,’ What do you really think that Meir is the head of a crime family and in danger of being eliminated?’ They are abusing us as well as the servants of Hashem. They need to be able to differentiate between the way Jews and Arabs are treated. Unfortunately that doesn’t exist in this country. “
Behadrey Haredim: The court has permitted you to have a small Bris in the jail with 15 guests. Why did you refuse?
“No one would want to hold a Bris in the basement of the Shabak under heavy security. They would search each one of those 15 guests in a degrading manner. Meir is not a dangerous criminal! He deserves to participate in his son’s Bris!
“Yesterday I sent a letter to Israel’s two chief Rabbis asking them to help me get my husband out of jail so he could attend the Bris. Rabbi Dovid Lau put out a letter calling for the release of Meir for the Bris.
“This pain will be etched in my heart my entire life. It is turning my life upside down. I invite all of Am Yisrael to the Bris. Meir has been in administrative detention for 8 months already. I am permitted to visit him once every 2 weeks for half an hour behind glass. He is permitted to speak on the phone 2 hours every day. It is very hard- but this is our nisayon.”
Bentzi Gofstein, president of the Lehava organization told Behadrey Hareidim ,”It’s sad to think that in the Jewish State they don’t allow a Jewish father to be present at his son’s Bris. I expect the entire Dati and Chareidi community to cry out about this travesty. The time has come to free Meir Ettinger!”
