Officer who was killed in attack at Gush Etzion: Eliav Gelman z"l

IDF officer, Captain in reserves Eliav Gelman z"l, Cooperation Unit officer of the Air Force, aged 30 from Karemei Tzur was killed today (Wednesday) in an attempted attack at Gush Etzion junction.

An initial investigation of the incident revealed that the terrorist reached the Gush Etzion junction and tried to stab the officer. The soldiers fired at the terrorist who was injured moderately, but during the shooting the officer was hit in the upper body, was critically wounded and later died at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

His settlement said that "Karmei Tzur settlement and Gush Etzion residents mourn today's terrorist incident iin which Eliav Gelman, a reserve officer and a resident of Karmei Tzur, died".

The deceased grew up in Kiryat Arba, married Rinat Shamai of Alon Shvut and after their marriage they established their home in Karmei Tzur. Eliav was a quiet and powerful man who gave of his life for the people and the country.

Eliav z"l, is the father of two sons, Yair and Yoav. He ended his military career a few months ago and intended to have turned to work in the security field. In recent days, his service was in reserves.

His brother, Eyal, said, "Eliav was most strongly linked to the land of Israel, the people of Israel and the Torah of Israel. Always with greatness and power".

Council head Davidi Perl said that "the great pain fills the heart. Eliav is a victim of the war over Gush Etzion. The war which began decades ago and is still unfortunately not over. We are now together with the family and the residents of Karmei Tsur in their great pain and we'll have to consider later what steps the Israeli government has to take in order to change the situation."
