Will Haredim support? The government is expected to approve today (Sunday) the decision to establish a "non-Orthodox prayer plaza" at the Western Wall, used by the Women of the Wall and the Reform, the Haredi representatives have not yet announced how they will vote.
The recommendations will be submitted to the government were formed by a team headed by Attorney Avichai Mandelblitt, deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber, and the outgoing cabinet secretary, Zvi Hauser.
According to the plan they will present at the Cabinet meeting, this is not a solution at the Western Wall, but at the Archeological Park, at a much lower level, which is also in front of the Western Wall.
Instead of the south of the Western Wall plaza known today, on the lower level inside the archaeological park named after Davidson, a prayer of Reform, Conservative, Women of the Wall and secularists who want to pray without separation between men and women will be allowed.
Those involved say it is an area which has served for years as an area for prayer without the Orthodox, but now it will get official confirmation as such, and will be under the responsibility of the PMO, while the Western Wall plaza is under the responsibility of Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the Rabbi of the Western Wall.
According to the sources, the novelty of the proposal which will be submitted to the government is the recommendation to establish a new gateway to the Western Wall at the cost NIS 35 million, which it has not yet been agreed who will finance it.
Notably, on Wednesday at the faction room of United Torah Judaism at the Knesset leaders of parties, ministers and Ministers Aryeh Deri and Yaakov Litzman as well as Finance Committee chairman Moshe Gafni, met with cabinet secretary Avichay Mandelblitt and Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, to discuss the issue.
