Shlomo Rechnitz, the famous donor, apologizes and says that "officials with an interest are distorting my words, if someone is offended I am ready to personally come to him and apologize."
Rechnitz makes it clear that although he is now in hospital at the bedside of his father in law, and although this is not a good time, he decided to apologize to stop the loshon hora that accompanied his fiery speech earlier this week.
Rechnitz opened his apology with the words - "I ask forgiveness from those who were offended, and apologize to the Roshei YEshivos and whoever was offended by my words". On the merits, he says that he appreciates and respects those who study Torah - "I am not against Kollelim and I'm not against the managers of institutions, I would do what they are doing, I have no problem with the heads of institutions who do not accept children whose parents have open Internet and TV, I was do the same as them to guard the spiritual future of the Talmud Torah.
"My criticism was directed at those who are defined as "elites" who are a vocal minority versus the silent majority, who come and demand not to accept children whose parents work for a living and set times for Torah study and are Torah minded".
Rechnitz continues to explain saying that "what is clear to me is that this issue got me into an overly emotional involvement, so I promise I will not address this issue any more, but I will continue to financially support any religious institution, as I have done to date."
Behadrey Haredim learned that aready after the speech, the Rosh Yeshiva of Lakewood Hagaon Rabbi Malkiel Kotler expressed his displeasure at his speech against the City of Torah Lakewood in which sharp manifestations were heard.
The Rosh Yeshiva made the remarks in a meeting held after the speech at the home of the Rosh Yeshiva with the participation of Rechnitz. Rechnitz said that although he is warm and sensitive to others, he personally was impressed by some of the difficult cases that came to his desk, which stirred him up and made him spontaneously make the emotional speech, which may have been too harsh. Rechnitz apologized to the Rosh Yeshiva and promised to write a letter clarifying the issue.
