Demonstrators stirred up commotion in Municipality of Jerusalem

Stormy at the Municipality of Jerusalem - Dozens of secular residents arrived tonight (Thursday) to demonstrate at the plenary of the Jerusalem City Council against the decision to close the supermarkets which are open on Shabbat in the city center, in contrast to the municipal bylaw, as well as against the decision on elections in community managements.

Council members Laura Wharton and Itai Gutler of Meretz and angry residents, created a commotion in the Chamber and distributed bread, cheese and vegetables to council members, claiming they will certainly miss something to eat since supermarkets will be closed on Shabbat.
Angry residents came to demonstrate at the invitation of the city council members from the factions 'Hitorerut' and 'Yerushalmim', who called residents to come to the Council to demonstrate during the debate on early elections of community councils.
As recalled, the Haredi and religious council members filed a motion, which demanded that the city stop the transfer of funds to the Yuvalim council which breaches the request of Mayor Nir Barkat not to screen movies during Shabbat.
This week, as first reported in Behadrey Haredim, a decision was made to hold early elections for community managements in which elections were not held recently.
It should be noted that the Yuvalim community council harassed Haredi sector residents, opposed the creation of haredi educational institutions in the neighborhood and blocked allocation to structures for Haredim.
