Today (Monday), the submarine 'INS Rahav" submarine first docked at the naval base in Haifa. The submarine was accompanied by other submarines, missile boats, ships of ongoing security and other sailing vessels of the naval commando.
At the end of the sailing, the submarine entered the base in Haifa, where a ceremony was held in the presence of President Reuven (Ruvy) Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon, Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, the Navy commander, Gen. Ram Rothberg and navy officials.
'INS Rahav' is the fifth submarine of the navy and the second to come as part of three submarines acquired of 'Dolphin AIP' type that will allow the Navy significant and more varied capabilities. The INS Rahav, built on the basis of first-generation Dolphin submarines, also includes new systems which significantly extend the capabilities of the submarine in terms of attack, discovery, defense, scope, length of mission and secrecy.
INS Rahav, which joined the troop of operational Submarine Flotilla, constitutes a part of the long arm of the IDF and the State of Israel and will take a major part of the operational activities of the Submarine Flotilla. Navy Commander Ram Rothberg said that the submarine which Israel will take in 2019 will be called the INS Dakar named after the Israeli submarine that sank in 1968.
On October 15, 2015, the submarine delivery ceremony was held and the replacement of flag, the flag of Germany to the flag of Israel. Until it left Germany to Israel, the INS Rahav underwent an operational certification process that included a series of tactical and technical training in the North Sea, at the end of which on December 17, 2015 the INS Rahav left for the coast of Israel. The submarine is named INS Rahav, the second submarine of the Navy and the State of Israel, an "S" type submarine which arrived in Israel in 1960 from England.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "Above all, the fleet of our subs serves to deter our enemies who seek to destroy us. They will not achieve what they want. They should know that Israel is able to hit powerfully anyone who tries to harm it, and the citizens of Israel should know that Israel is very strong, we are doing and will do everything to protect you, anytime, in any scene- in the kinetic world and the cybernetic world- with an array of cyber we build. In the air, and above the air, in space. On the ground and below the ground, facing the threat of tunnels, in the sea and under the sea - with submarines."

According to the Minister of Defense, Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon, "the accession of the new submarine 'INS Rahav- to the sea force, and its operational power system, constitutes a further step to our power. 'INS Rahav', and her sister, 'INS Tanin', alongside three other submarines, will allow the navy to continue operating in sea in combined forces with the rest of the units and the IDF plans to thwart the malicious intentions of our enemies to disrupt our lives."
According to the Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot: "This year, 2016, we will begin to implement the multi-year program 'Gideon' which was recently formulated. The program is designed to ensure the suitability of the army to the battlefield of the future and becoming an advanced and sophisticated army, a precise and powerful military. The navy played an important role in our success facing various threats and the defense of our citizens and the strategic assets of the State of Israel. In any future conflict the navy, in combination with other arms, will continue to be an offensive force, defense and intelligence, effective and necessary. The submarine personnel face many challenges and you can overcome them. I know that behind the most powerful machine stand people who are responsible for the security of the country and for our success."
Words of naval commander, Gen. Ram Rothberg: "Operation Fifth Power has ended, you arrived home safely, 27 days sailing and diving. A fifth submarine joins its sisters as a naval commando submarine. Currently the next submarine of the State of Israel is being built by teams of navy, commando submarines and the Kiel shipyard workers in Germany. Upon arrival here it would become a record of the growing naval force buildup of Submarine Flotilla. The name of the sixth submarine will be INS Dakar. The new and the most sophisticated submarine under the name INS Dakar will be a living legacy, dynamic, bold and victorious. Dakar will be a living, daily memorial of the names, the faces of people who were imbued with the spirit of mission, volunteerism and responsibility to arrive in Haifa, and to fight from the depths for Israel".
