The world is shaking: North Korea announced today (Wednesday) that it has successfully conducted a hydrogen bomb testing.

According to reports, during the night an earthquake was detected in Southeast Asia, at a magnitude 5.1 on the Richter scale. Shortly after local news agency reported on an bomb experiment.

"North Korea has the legal right to defend itself against the US," the message said, "It will not need nuclear weapons if the US does not threaten its sovereignty. We shall not give up our nuclear plan as long as the United States will hold an aggressive position against us."

Senior US administration reacted cautiously to the news and said: "It will take a few days for intelligence agencies to know whether indeed it was a hydrogen bomb and the experiment was successful." However, the international community has expressed concern over the incident.

The UN Security Council will meet today to discuss the matter. A North Korean television statement said: "If there is no invasion of our sovereignty we will not use nuclear weapons. The hydrogen bomb experiment brings us to a higher level of nuclear capability. "

In fact this is the fourth nuclear experiment conducted by North Korea, for which it is found under severe sanctions by the West.

The South Korean government, a neighbor of North Korea, condemned the test, "South Korea will cooperate with its partners in the region to make sure that North Korea will pay a price for the experiment with a hydrogen bomb. We condemn severely the north due to the fourth nuclear test. North Korea did so despite warnings and appeals from the international community. "

The Japanese Prime Minister also expressed his concern and said, "This is a big threat and a flagrant violation of the resolutions of the UN Security Council".

A hydrogen bomb is a nuclear bomb which operates on the same principle, such as the sun, in which the hydrogen nuclei undergo a nuclear fusion, releasing an enormous amount of energy, the strength of the hydrogen bomb is about 100 times greater than the atomic bomb and is measured in millions of tons of TNT, megatons.

In order for the fusion process to happen it is necessary to apply very high temperature pressures, conditions which are created in stars because of their large mass. In a hydrogen bomb these conditions are achieved through the fission bomb explosion of an atomic bomb.

This kind of bomb was built and tested several times by the great powers in history, but never was such a bomb activated during any war.
