Published: the Dizengoff terrorist's cell phone was located in Ramat Aviv, his place of work.
The hunt for the killer continues, and it is conducted in several regions across the country. The police are focusing extensive security efforts, along with efforts to locate him.
Yesterday the phone of the terrorist was found in a yard of a house in Ramat Aviv in Tel Aviv. A neighbor had picked up the device and taken it to her home.
In fact on Saturday night it turned out that about two hours before the attack, the shooter's cell phone was found on a side trail in Ramat Aviv.
According to the publication of channels 2 and 10, it was found by a schoolgirl, she returned home, charging the phone to turn it on later and return it to its original owners.
When the phone was loaded on the afternoon of Friday the girl and her father turned on the phone and the calls received were by Arabic speakers. They assumed it belongs to a worker in the neighborhood. Only on Saturday night after security forces realized that the phone is at their home, they arrived at their house and picked it up.
Consequently, extensive searches were conducted in the region today. Against the background of further searches for the gunman from Tel Aviv after 2.5 days, and in response to criticism of the failure to update the concerned public, this evening the police clarifies, "We deliberately refrain from publishing information that could compromise efforts to get our hands on the murderer in close collaboration with the Shin Bet which is leading the intelligence efforts".
"The public's cooperation is exemplary and we are grateful for the awareness and information which streamed to the police," the police said, and clarify that every piece of information is checked. "There is no reason to change the guidelines to the public. One should behave routinely in all regions, with continued vigilance and report to the police."
Nasat Malchem (29) is suspected of shooting on Friday on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv, due to which Alon Bekel (26) and Shimon Raimi (30) were murdered. So too he is suspected of murdering the taxi driver Amin Sheaben, 42 of Lod in north Tel Aviv.
Documents and testimonies first exposed on News 10, reveal an image of a person who was violent and furious who acted with violence against police officers.
A policeman from the north, who guarded Malhem with his arrest in 2007, said in a conversation with News 10 that he and his friends were not surprised to discover Malhem is the terrorist. "He was a very troublesome prisoner," said the policeman, "he was wild, raving. He was not mentally ill as described, but simply a bad person. When I found out it was him, I could not believe they released him."
The police phone center received hundreds of calls from concerned citizens who gave information on the terrorist according to the description, and the places where he was observed. Accordingly, the forces were propped up to countless places. A relative, Ahmed, said in an interview on Army Radio: "We do not know where he could hide. At first I thought that within hours he would turn himself in on his own. It is difficult to think about where he could run, the family and the community want him to turn himself in and the circle will be closed."
The detention of brother of the terrorist, Judat Malhem, suspected of helping the terrorist, was reduced by the Court of Haifa from five to three days.
