Health Around the World: Litzmann flew to Miami

The first official visit since his appointment as Minister of Health for Yaakov Litzman – is currently conducted in the United States. The Minister of Health left last Thursday to New York, where he met with his US counterpart as well as visited Rebbes and hospitals.

On Thursday Litzmann held a work tour in the hospital in Manhattan with the NYU's Hospital Medical Officer and officials and representatives from organizations in 40 hospitals in the United States - where he spoke.

Following are some of Litzmann's words:
"I don't understand anything about medicine, do no mistake, I never give advice about doctors, never in my life. I think it's wrong to do it. I'm a politician, but what I do is try to fix things which were not fixed for 50 years. I know I'm popular, I know how popular I am. On television they asked me why I'm so popular, what's the difference between me and other ministers. I gave them two reasons: First of all, I do not intervene in politics, I have no say about Obama. I do know, believe me, but I never say Netanyahu is supposed to go to Washington or not supposed to go to Washington… That you leave over to the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister… Second thing which I do is, private people have a lot of health problems. I have six associates and six secretaries, I've been a minister for almost nine months, and we have about 15-16,000 pleas to myself alone, not to the office, to Minister Litzmann, that I should help them."
Litzman further said: "The Israeli health system is a very, very good system, you'd be surprised. We have brilliant doctors… I'm sure President Obama would like to have our system here in the United States… Maybe I'll give them a few tips… I come on surprise visits to hospitals. Not everybody knows that I'm the minister… We are trying to fix and change the system."


The Minister of Health Litzmann came for a special visit to the Rebbe of Rachmastrivka, of the eldest US Rebbes, and to the Rebbes of Bobov and Tzanz Klausenburg.

Boyan held a reception in honor of Litzmann in the Beis Midrash, including the Rosh Yeshiva and then paid a visit to the offices of Hamodia newspaper in English.
Minister Litzmann spent Shabbos in Miami, where the annual meeting of Agudath Israel was held, attended by heads of Agudath Israel in the US - Rabbi Shlomo Werdyger and Rabbi Haim David Tzwibel.

The Health Minister served as the guest of honor of the event, where he was invited at the request of the chairman of the Florida Agudath Israel Rabbi Moshe Metz. At the opening of the dinner the senior benefactor Rabbi Yechiel Ben-Zion Fischhof surprised the minister with his attendance.

Behadrey Haredim learned that the health minister is expected to return to Israel on Thursday this week, after obtaining the offset vote in the Knesset - allowing him to be absent from votes of the Knesset on the coming Wednesday as well.
