Disturbing: Three months after the outbreak of the 'knives Intifada', US State Department publishes tonight (Thursday) a travel warning about visiting Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

"The security atmosphere in Israel, in the West Bank and Gaza is complex," the message reads, "US citizens should be aware of the ongoing risks involved in traveling to areas described in the travel warning, which could have increased tensions and security risks."

"American citizens who come to visit Israel should find out ahead of time where the closest shelter to their location is. The security situation is complex and can vary every day. Increase in political tension and violence in Jerusalem and the West Bank has resulted in injury or even death of American citizens."

The Foreign Ministry recommends that US citizens consider rules that oblige US government employees, including a ban on traveling to the West Bank, except for a visit to the cities of Bethlehem and Jericho, and a ban on public transportation in Israel and the West.
