The Rivlin storm - senior Knesset member in Torah Judaism responds to Behadrey Haredim over the candle lighting with a Reform woman rabbi at the White House, and says - "what we feared in the presidential election, has occurred to us."
The storm broke out around the candle lighting ceremony of President Rivlin at the White House last night (Wednesday) with the participation of a Reform rabbi from St. Louis Susan Talmud who moderated the lighting event. The Reform rabbi even distorted the wording of the blessing and said - "who did miracles for our fathers and our mothers."
Knesset member of Torah Judaism attacks Rivlin and said that "it was clear to us in the presidential race that Reuven Rivlin as president would be problematic, and therefore from the outset we supported Dalia Itzik, but in the second round we had no choice, and the possibility was between MK Shitrit who expressed himself several times in favor of the Reform, or Rivlin, who is an observant man. There were those in the faction who claimed Rivlin as president will be worse than Shitrit, and was primping the secular public."
The MK added - "In the end the majority view prevailed and it was decided to support Rivlin, and as recalled a result, he became president. Unfortunately just as we feared has happened, and President Rivlin does not stop speaking against all that is valuable to the haredi public such as his statements regarding recruiting, and the obligation of teaching the core studies. He now went further and backed the Reform, Judaism's most dangerous thing."
As recalled, in the presidential elections a year ago, the majority of the haredi parties in the first race supported the candidate Dalia Itzik, and after losing the first race and Reuven Rivlin and Meir Shitrit went up to the second round, the haredi parties decided last minute to support Rivlin, as a result of the link between Shitrit and communities of reformers, and his help in promoting anti-religious laws.
Rivlin beat Shitrit only thanks to the support of the haredim, with a strained majority of 63 in favor.
