The elderly Jew who was injured tonight (Wednesday) in the shooting attack near the West Bank settlement of Avnei Hefetz, is Shaul Nir, one of 25 Jewish underground fighters in the 80s convicted of carrying out revenge attacks against Arabs.
His condition is defined serious and he was taken to Beilinson Hospital, where it was reported that he is currently in the trauma room and expected to enter the operating room later.
Nir, the most famous member of the underground, was even sentenced at the time to life imprisonment, but was released after President Herzog rated his sentence several times with a third reduction.
Shaul is a veteran Likud member and a close associate of Minister of Transport Israel Katz, who recommended him as a candidate for membership a decade ago to the Movement Secretariat.
In addition, Nir lost his son-in-law Nati Ozeri HYD, the husband of his daughter Livnat, who was killed on Hill 26 in an outpost near Hebron.
