Notice of bomb in 770 received - and it was evacuated

Terrorism threatens: towards the evening hours in New York yesterday (Tuesday) police received a call about a bomb threat to the global Chabad center and it was evacuated.

Last night a call from an unidentified source about bomb placed in the center of the global Chabad - 770, in Crown Heights, New York.

The police took the threat seriously and evacuated the place of its inhabitants. Most yeshiva bochurim who regularly attend the place were not in the building at the time, as many of them were engaged in the Chanukah candle lighting operation in the city, and the building was almost empty.

Police combed the area and sent forces. After extensive searches no suspicious object was found in the building.

According to preliminary investigation, the phone call came from a psychiatrist hospital, which raises the hypothesis that this was not a threat against the background of a hate crime, however police are treating the call seriously and launched an investigation.

Chabad centers have become targets of terrorist threats, particularly the case of the attack on the Chabad center in Mumbai in 2008, in which Chabad emissary Rabbi Gavriel Holzberg and his wife Rivka HYD and some of his guests, were killed.

The World Chabad Center is known as 770, as the street number of the house where it is located in Eastern Parkway, and called by Chabad Hasidim "Seven Seventy". Its official name is the Association of Chabad House.

The place is the Beis Midrash of the Lubavitcher Rebbe in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York.
