Price tag: talks with Europe suspended

Diplomatic price tag: Following the decision by the EU to mark goods produced in the settlements, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister instructed today (Sunday) to freeze ties with EU institutions involved in the negotiations with the Palestinians.

The Prime Minister's directive comes in response to the EU's decision to mark products manufactured in the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nachshon, said that Netanyahu's provision is to hold a re-evaluation of the degree of involvement that Israel will allow the foreign service of the European Union, to the European Commission and the other EU institutions in Brussels, on issues related to the peace process with the Palestinians. Upon completion of the revaluation it will decide whether and how to resume the talks on the Palestinian issue with the EU institutions in Brussels and with EU representatives in Israel.

He added that "talks on the Palestinian issue with other individual countries which are EU Member States such as Germany, Britain and France will continue as usual."

Two weeks ago, the European Commission approved the labeling of products made in Israeli settlements in what it defined as "occupied territory". The directive has caused outrage in Israel and a series of protests in front of the European Union.
