Russian plane downing: President of Turkey expressed regret for the downing of the Russian plane, and said: "I wish it had not happened." But President Putin is not satisfied.
Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded an apology for the downing of the Turkish 24 Russian Sukhoi plane, on the Turkish border. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is trying to do so without losing his dignity.
"The case made me very sad," he said, "I wish it would not happen, but unfortunately it happened. I hope it does not happen again. But if we allow the violation of our sovereignty, we will lose our territory, too."
Erdogan called on President Putin to meet him at the climate conference to be held in Paris next week.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, said today that the behavior of the Turkish Air Force is "absolute madness, Ankara's handling of the crisis reminds me of an absurd theater. No one has the right to intercept a Russian aircraft with treachery from behind."
He even hinted threateningly that "the circumstances under which the aircraft was shot are unprecedented, Turkey has thrown down the gauntlet to Russia and President Putin is determined to respond to this, and naturally our response will be in accordance with this threat."
So far, Putin who requires a clear apology from Turkey, refused any conversation with the Turkish President.
